Fall
FALL TERM
Highly competitive and a demanding game schedule with a jamboree at the start of the season. This program is offered to V, VI, and VII Forms only.
Boys Varsity Soccer
Competitive and extensive schedule including one tournament for Rumsey’s top soccer players. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form boys (limited roster).
Boys Varsity B Soccer
A competitive team with an extensive schedule including one tournament. Strong emphasis on fundamentals. Generally for V, VI and VII Forms.
Girls Varsity Soccer
A competitive team and game schedule with one tournament. Geared toward girls with previous soccer experience. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form girls (limited roster).
Junior Blue Soccer (co-ed)
A co-ed competitive program including one tournament for beginners as well as skilled players. Fundamentals stressed. Generally for III, IV, and some V Form students.
Junior Red Soccer (co-ed)
Developmental non-competitive program to teach soccer skills. The Reds practice on the same field as the Blues. Generally for III and IV Form students.
Varsity Cross Country (co-ed)
A co-ed competitive program with a competitive race schedule and a home invitational hosted by the Blue Dogs. Open to IV, V, VI, and VII Forms
Varsity Field Hockey
A competitive game schedule for Rumsey’s top field hockey players. Strong emphasis on fundamentals and team building. Generally includes girls in V, VI, and VII Forms.
Varsity B Field Hockey / Developmental Field Hockey
Emphasis on learning rules and fundamentals. Only B Field Hockey players compete in contests throughout the season. Generally for III, IV, V, VI, and some VII Form girls.
Varsity Volleyball
A competitive schedule versus secondary school jv and IIIs teams and a home tournament hosted by the Blue Dogs. A superior program for accomplished players or girls wanting to excel at the game. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form girls.
Varsity B Volleyball
Strong emphasis on fundamentals. Great feeder program for Varsity Volleyball with a competitive game schedule. Generally for IV, V, VI, and some VII Form girls.
Blue Dog Bikes (co-ed)
The mountain biking racing team will compete on Wednesdays throughout the fall with a championship race at the end of the season. Generally for V, VI, and VII Forms. (Limited Roster).
Horseback Riding (co-ed) Fall & Spring Terms
Riding is offered at Fox Crossing Equestrian, LLC in Morris, CT. This program is an extra cost. All levels of instruction are available. Open to IV, V, VI, and VII Form students.
Recreational Tennis (co-ed) Limited Roster
This program is for beginner and intermediate players who wish to learn the game of tennis and have fun playing each afternoon. Generally for V, VI, and VII Forms.
Fall Play Set Design
Students will come together to help bring the fall play to life. They will design and craft backgrounds and flats to set the stage for the fall play. Not only will they master the art of prop creation and organization, but they will also showcase their graphic design skills by creating all the promotional materials. Those not in the spotlight as actors will have the opportunity to be invaluable stage crew members or sound and light technicians on the day of production.
Lower School Afternoon Enrichment Program (co-ed) Fall, Winter & Spring Terms
This program provides athletic, arts, and academic offerings for Lower Schoolers daily from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. Activities vary seasonally.
Winter
WINTER TERM
Boys Varsity Ice Hockey
Highly competitive game schedule with two tournaments (one hosted by the Blue Dogs). A superior program for accomplished skaters. Daily practice at Rumsey’s Lufkin Rink. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form boys.
Boys Varsity B Ice Hockey
Competitive hockey and game schedule for advanced young skaters. The emphasis is on fundamentals and skating. Daily practice at Rumsey’s Lufkin Rink. Generally for III, IV, V, VI, and some VII Form boys.
Blue Dog Developmental Ice Hockey (co-ed)
This program is for beginner hockey players who want to learn the game of hockey in a fun setting. This program divides skaters into small teams to play games throughout the seasons as well as learn all of the skills needed to advance to higher levels of ice hockey. Skaters skate at Lufkin Rink and on the Rumsey ponds. Open to beginner skaters in III - VII Forms.
Girls Varsity Ice Hockey
Competitive hockey and game schedule for intermediate and advanced skaters which includes two tournaments (one hosted by the Blue Dogs). Daily practice at Rumsey’s Lufkin Rink. Generally for III, IV, V, VI, and VII Form girls.
Girls Varsity B Ice Hockey
A program that practices each day and will compete in several games. This team is girls who are new to hockey, but have some skating experience. Generally for third through VIIth Form girl athletes.
Boys Varsity Basketball
Competitive schedule for advanced players. This team is for Rumsey’s best basketball players. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form boys (limited roster).
Boys Varsity B Basketball
A program with multiple games and one tournament on the schedule. This program is for beginners and experienced young players. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form boys.
Boys Junior Basketball
Competitive basketball program with two levels - Blues and Reds. Blues typically have more contests on their schedule than the Reds. Great for beginners and experienced young players. Generally for III, IV and V Form boys.
Girls Varsity Basketball
Competitive game schedule. A program for girls who want to learn and excel at the game. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form girls (limited roster).
Girls Varsity B Basketball
Emphasis on learning rules and fundamentals. A program with multiple games on the schedule. Generally for III, IV, V, and VI Forms
Girls Junior Volleyball
This program with a game schedule is for players who wish to fine tune their volleyball skills with instruction. Generally offered to III, IV, V, and some VI Form girls.
Varsity Ski Team (co-ed)
A competitive program with daily skiing at nearby Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall CT. and races at various mountains in the area. Emphasis on racing technique. Rumsey is part of the BHSL Ski League. Ski Program Forms (which will be available in November ) and payment must be in the office in advance of the Winter Term. There is an extra charge for a season pass and equipment rental, if needed.
Recreational Skiing and Snowboarding (co-ed)
Open to all students with good academic and social standing. This is a non-competitive program, which emphasizes fun. There is abundant supervision and top instruction is available. This group skis daily at Mohawk Mountain in Cornwall CT. Generally for IV, V, VI, and VII Forms. Ski Program Forms (which will be available in November) and payment must be in the office in advance of the Winter Term. There is an extra charge for a season pass and equipment rental, if needed.
Winter Fitness (co-ed)
This program is for students who wish to workout in our weight room throughout the winter with a faculty member instructor. Generally for Forms VI, and VII only.

SPRING TERM
Boys Varsity Lacrosse
A competitive program and schedule. Rumsey’s top lacrosse players who excel at the sport. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form boys.
Boys Varsity B Lacrosse
A competitive program for beginners as well as skilled young players. Generally for III, IV, V, and VI Form boys.
Girls Varsity Lacrosse
A competitive program and game schedule with one tournament hosted by the Blue Dogs for Rumsey’s top female players and players with some experience. Generally for III, IV, V, VI, and VII Form girls.
Girls Varsity B Lacrosse
This competitive program is designed to teach new players the game of lacrosse. Players will learn the fundamentals of the game to help them advance to a more competitive level in the future. Generally for III, IV, and V Form girls.
Varsity Baseball
Competitive program and game schedule. Games are played on regulation major league size baseball diamonds. Generally for V, VI, and VII Form boys (limited roster).
Varsity B Baseball
A competitive program and game schedule that teaches fundamentals of the game. Generally for IV, V, VI, and some VII Form boys.
Varsity Softball
A competitive schedule played on a regulation field, with fast pitch rules. Depending on the size of the team, there could be developmental players that practice with this program. Generally for IV, V, VI, and VII Form girls.
Varsity A Tennis (co-ed) Limited Roster
Students are required to try out for this highly competitive team. The program with a challenging match schedule carries just 12 members due to limited court space. Generally for superior players in the IV, V, VI, and VII Forms.
Varsity B Tennis (co-ed) Limited Roster
This team requires a tryout. Experience is expected - this is not a beginner level program and plays a competitive match schedule. Generally for III, IV, V, VI, and VII Forms.
Varsity Crew (co-ed) Limited Roster
Unique to Junior Schools for students in V, VI, and VII Forms. There are races against prep school crews, and a Lower Boat Regatta is hosted by the Blue Dogs at Lake Waramaug. This program has expanded into a very competitive and exciting sport at Rumsey.
Recreational Golf (co-ed) Limited Roster
This program is for golfers who have course experience. Due to restrictions at the course, this roster is limited to 7 players. Generally for IVth-VIIth Form students.
Developmental Girls Lacrosse
This program is for girls who are brand new to lacrosse. This is a non-competitive team who learn the skills and rules of the game. Generally for third through VIth Form students.
Futures Crew (co-ed)
This program is for IV and V Formers who are interested in learning about Crew. Practice takes place in the Francis M. Ryan Indoor Rowing Facility in tanks and on ergs.
Rumsey Outdoor Adventure (ROA) (co-ed) Fall & Spring Terms
ROA offers students the opportunity for growth in leadership and outdoor skills while encouraging an appreciation and stewardship for our natural surroundings. Some of the activities include indoor climbing wall, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, and archery. Generally for IV, V, VI, and VII Forms.
